Carl Zittrer and Paul Zaza

On this program we talk to film composers Carl Zittrer and Paul Zaza about their film projects, solo as well as together.

We’ll talk to Carl about his early regional low budget horror films including Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things and Black Christmas, and his use of early synthesizers.

We’ll discuss 80s slasher movies Prom Night, My Bloody Valentine and Curtains, and hear from both about their symphonic score together – 1979’s Murder By Decree featuring Christopher Plummer as legendary sleuth Sherlock Holmes on the trail of Jack The Ripper. We’ll hear about the composing by a young Paul Zaza for that score, as well as Carl Zittrer’s unique editing process. And both will talk about their work over the years with director Bob Clark.
